Klaviyo MCP Server: What It Does, Its Limits and Alternatives

Kevin Scotton September 30, 2026

Short answer: yes, Klaviyo has an official MCP server. Use the hosted version at https://mcp.klaviyo.com/mcp with an OAuth sign-in, or run it locally with a private API key. It's listed in Claude's connector directory and has a ChatGPT app. It's strongest at reporting and profile data. It can create campaign drafts. When we checked at the end of September 2026, it couldn't yet send or schedule them, or build flows.

If you run a Shopify store on Klaviyo and want to ask Claude "which flow made the most money last month?", it's genuinely useful. If you want the assistant to take a campaign from idea to inbox, you'll hit its limits. This guide covers both.

We run Audienceful, an email marketing platform with its own MCP server, so we're not neutral. We've kept the Klaviyo sections to what Klaviyo documents, and we'll update this post as its server changes.

What the Klaviyo MCP server is

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard AI assistants use to work with outside tools. Klaviyo released its server as a local beta in June 2025. In August 2025 it added a hosted remote server and made it generally available to all customers. Since then it has added a Claude directory listing, a ChatGPT app and, in May 2026, interactive charts inside Claude.

There are two ways to run it:

  • Remote (recommended): https://mcp.klaviyo.com/mcp. Sign in with OAuth. You need the Owner, Admin or Manager role on the Klaviyo account.
  • Local: the klaviyo-mcp-server Python package, run with uvx and a private API key. Use this when you want to choose the key's exact scopes.

What it can do

Klaviyo's Claude listing shows 27 tools, covering:

  • Reporting: campaign and flow reports, metrics, and metric aggregates ("revenue by flow for the last 30 days").
  • Profiles: look up, create and update profiles, and subscribe or unsubscribe them from marketing.
  • Lists and segments: read lists and segments and their details.
  • Campaigns: list campaigns, create a campaign draft, create an HTML email template and attach it to a campaign message.
  • Flows: read flows and their reports.
  • Catalog, events and images: read catalog items and events, and upload images.

You can tighten it, too. The remote server takes options such as read-only=true (no write tools) and a switch that turns off tools which read customer-written content, a sensible guard against prompt injection. You can only set these options through a custom connector, not through the directory listings.

How to set it up

Claude: open Settings → Connectors, find Klaviyo in the directory and connect. To connect more than one Klaviyo account, add a custom connector instead.

Claude Code:

Bash
claude mcp add --transport http klaviyo https://mcp.klaviyo.com/mcp

ChatGPT: add the Klaviyo app from the app directory.

Cursor or VS Code: add https://mcp.klaviyo.com/mcp as a new MCP server and sign in when prompted.

The limits worth knowing

  • It can't send or schedule campaigns yet. The assistant can create a draft and attach a template, but a person launches it in Klaviyo. Klaviyo has said end-to-end scheduling and sending was planned for Q3 2026. We hadn't seen it documented as shipped when we checked at the end of September.
  • Flows are read-only. You can ask how your abandoned cart flow performs, but the server can't build or edit flows. You build those in Klaviyo's flow builder or with Composer, its in-app agent.
  • Segments are read-only. The assistant can read your segments but not create new ones through the server.
  • Emails are HTML. Templates the assistant creates are raw HTML, not Klaviyo's drag-and-drop editor. A marketer who wants to tweak them later may find that awkward.
  • Pricing still applies. The MCP server costs nothing extra, but Klaviyo bills by active profiles, and its AI agent, Composer, uses credits. See our note on Klaviyo's price increases.

Switching from Klaviyo?

  • Pay less as your list grows. At 10,000 contacts Audienceful is $79/mo billed yearly ($99 monthly), against $150 for Klaviyo. At 30,000 it's $196 ($245 monthly), against $500. See the full Klaviyo comparison.
  • Your assistant can finish the job. It builds the audience, writes the emails, sets up the automation (paused until you turn it on) and schedules the send once you approve the exact recipients.
  • Revenue in every report. Native Shopify and Stripe integrations attribute orders to the emails that drove them, so "which campaign made the most money?" gets a real answer.
  • An AI agent built in, too. The same work happens inside Audienceful with the built-in agent, so you're not tied to one assistant. Both are on every plan, and the MCP server doesn't use AI credits.

Start free: the free plan covers up to 1,000 contacts. Then bring your list over with our migration guide.

When to use which

Stay with Klaviyo's MCP if you're happy in Klaviyo and mostly want answers: revenue by flow, top campaigns, how a segment is trending. It's very good at that, and it fits teams with a large Klaviyo setup they don't want to move.

Look at Audienceful if you want the assistant to do the work, not just report on it. In one conversation it can build the "bought twice, not in 60 days" audience, write the win-back sequence (created paused for you to check), draft the weekly campaign in an editor your team can review, and schedule it once you approve the exact recipients. Revenue from Shopify and Stripe flows into the reports it reads. The AI agent built into Audienceful does the same inside the app, on every plan.

FAQs

Does Klaviyo have an MCP server?

Yes. Klaviyo's official MCP server is hosted at https://mcp.klaviyo.com/mcp and also runs locally from the klaviyo-mcp-server package. It's listed in Claude's connector directory and has a ChatGPT app.

Can the Klaviyo MCP server send campaigns?

Not when we checked at the end of September 2026. It can create campaign drafts and attach templates, but scheduling and sending happen in Klaviyo. Klaviyo has said sending is on its roadmap.

Is the Klaviyo MCP server free?

There's no separate charge for the MCP server. Your normal Klaviyo plan applies, and connecting several accounts in Claude needs a paid Claude plan.

What's a good alternative to the Klaviyo MCP?

If you want an assistant that can build audiences and automations and send with your approval, try Audienceful's email marketing MCP server. It works with Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor and Claude Code, and it's included on every plan.

Email? Easy.
