Mailchimp MCP: Official Connectors, Community Servers and an Alternative

Kevin Scotton October 1, 2026

Short answer: Mailchimp doesn't have one general-purpose MCP server for its marketing product. It has three partial options:

  1. The Intuit Mailchimp connector for Claude, plus a Mailchimp app in ChatGPT. Both plan and design campaigns and save them to Mailchimp. Neither sends.
  2. The Mailchimp Transactional MCP server, for the Mandrill transactional email add-on. It can send, but only transactional email.
  3. Community MCP servers that wrap the Marketing API with an API key. Some can send campaigns, with the risks that come with an unofficial tool.

Which one you need depends on what you want your assistant to do. This guide walks through each, as of October 2026, and ends with an alternative if you want one server that does the whole job.

We run Audienceful, an email marketing platform with its own MCP server, so we have a stake here. The Mailchimp sections stick to what Intuit and Mailchimp document.

1

The Intuit Mailchimp connector for Claude and ChatGPT

In 2026 Intuit added Mailchimp apps to ChatGPT (launched in March) and Claude, where the connector is listed as "Intuit Mailchimp" and marked Anthropic verified. In May 2026 Intuit made them available in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia.

What it does: it's a campaign planner and designer. The Claude connector's tools plan a campaign, apply your email theme, edit text, swap and generate images, pull product images from your site, and save the result to Mailchimp.

What it doesn't do: it doesn't send or schedule. It shows no tools for your audience, subscribers or reports, so you can't ask it how last week's campaign did. You open Mailchimp to review and launch what it saved.

Setup: in Claude, open the connectors menu, find Intuit Mailchimp, click Connect and sign in to Mailchimp. In ChatGPT, search for Mailchimp in the app directory and add it.

Plans: Mailchimp's pages disagree. Its AI tools page says the connectors are "available on Standard and Premium plans". Its ChatGPT guide says you "don't need to be on a specific plan". Check your account before you count on it.

The Mailchimp Transactional MCP server

Mailchimp Transactional (formerly Mandrill) has its own documented MCP server, hosted at https://mandrillapp.com/mcp. You connect with a Transactional API key as a Bearer token. Mailchimp gives setup steps for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and VS Code:

Bash
claude mcp add --transport http mctx-mcp https://mandrillapp.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"

It can send transactional messages, manage templates and help diagnose failed sends. It's useful for developers. But it doesn't touch your marketing audience or campaigns, and Transactional is a paid add-on for Standard and Premium plans.

3

Community Mailchimp MCP servers

Several open-source projects wrap Mailchimp's Marketing API. The most complete ones can list audiences, build campaigns, and send or schedule them. Some add safety switches like read-only and dry-run modes, or require an explicit confirmSend flag.

Before you use one, know that:

  • They use a full-access API key. Mailchimp Marketing API keys can't be limited to certain actions, so the server, and any prompt that steers your assistant, can do anything your account can.
  • They're unofficial. Mailchimp doesn't support them, and a small project can go quiet at any time.
  • You run them yourself, usually with uvx, npx or Docker on your own machine.

They're fine for a developer exploring an account. They're a harder sell for a team that wants a supported tool.

Switching from Mailchimp?

  • Pay less as your list grows. At 10,000 contacts Audienceful is $79/mo billed yearly ($99 monthly), against $230 for Mailchimp. At 30,000 it's $196 ($245 monthly), against $340. See the full Mailchimp comparison.
  • One official server that sends. No separate transactional add-on or community server: one OAuth connection covers audiences, emails, automations, sends and reports.
  • An editor your whole team can use. Drafts land in a collaborative block editor with reusable themes, so a marketer can polish what the assistant wrote without touching code.
  • An AI agent built in, too. The same work happens inside Audienceful with the built-in agent, so you're not tied to one assistant. Both are on every plan, and the MCP server doesn't use AI credits.

Start free: the free plan covers up to 1,000 contacts. Then bring your list over with our Mailchimp import guide.

When to use which

Use the Intuit connector if you like Mailchimp and want help planning and designing campaigns before finishing them in Mailchimp.

Use the Transactional MCP if you're a developer working on Mandrill sends.

Look at Audienceful if you want one official server that does the whole job. Your assistant can look up contacts, build an audience from a sentence, write the email in an editor your team can review, set up a welcome or win-back sequence (paused until you turn it on), schedule the send after you approve the exact recipients, and report back on opens, clicks and revenue. It works in Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude Code and Cursor, and it's on every plan.

Moving is straightforward: follow our guide to importing contacts from Mailchimp, and see the Mailchimp comparison and the best Mailchimp alternatives for the wider picture.

FAQs

Does Mailchimp have an official MCP server?

For marketing, Mailchimp offers directory connectors in Claude ("Intuit Mailchimp") and ChatGPT rather than a general-purpose MCP server. For Mailchimp Transactional, there's a documented MCP server at https://mandrillapp.com/mcp.

Can I connect Mailchimp to Claude?

Yes. Add the Intuit Mailchimp connector from Claude's connector directory and sign in. It plans and designs campaigns and saves them to Mailchimp. You send them from Mailchimp.

Can the Mailchimp ChatGPT app send campaigns?

No. It drafts campaigns and saves them to Mailchimp, where you review and launch them.

What's the best Mailchimp MCP alternative?

If you want an assistant that can segment, write, automate, send with your approval and report, Audienceful's email marketing MCP server does all of it with one OAuth connection, and it's included on every plan.

Email? Easy.

Audienceful is how smart companies do AI email newsletters, marketing automation, and transactional email.
