MailerLite MCP Server: Setup, Limits and an Alternative

Kevin Scotton October 5, 2026

Short answer: yes, MailerLite has an official MCP server. It's hosted at https://mcp.mailerlite.com/mcp, you connect with an OAuth sign-in instead of an API key, and it's listed in Claude's connector directory and ChatGPT's plugin directory. It covers subscribers, groups, segments, campaigns, automations, forms and ecommerce data. Campaigns are created as drafts and only sent after you confirm.

It's one of the more capable email MCP servers out there. The limits are mostly about plans and finishing touches, which this guide covers as of October 2026.

We run Audienceful, an email marketing platform with its own MCP server, so we're not neutral. We've kept the MailerLite sections to what MailerLite documents.

What the MailerLite MCP can do

MailerLite Labs launched the server as a beta in July 2025, and its developer docs still describe it as beta. It covers a lot:

  • Subscribers, groups and segments: look up and update subscribers, manage groups, and create segments.
  • Campaigns: create, update, schedule and cancel campaigns, and read recipient and click data.
  • Automations: create a draft automation, edit its emails and delays, validate it with a dry run, and send a test.
  • Forms, custom fields and webhooks: list and manage them.
  • Templates and content: browse and install automation templates, and generate HTML and subject lines.
  • Ecommerce: read and manage shop data for stores connected to MailerLite.

Safety: MailerLite says campaigns are always created as drafts, that your assistant "can't send one without your explicit confirmation", and that it tells you the audience size before you approve. Deleting a subscriber, campaign or automation also needs your confirmation.

How to set it up

  • Claude: open the connectors menu, search for MailerLite, click Connect and authorize your account. Or add a custom connector with https://mcp.mailerlite.com/mcp.
  • Claude Code:
Bash
claude mcp add --transport http mailerlite https://mcp.mailerlite.com/mcp
  • ChatGPT: open Plugins, find MailerLite, choose Sign in with MailerLite and authorize.
  • Cursor, VS Code and Gemini CLI: add the same URL as a remote MCP server. Cursor's free plan limits how many tools a connector can expose, so you may need to switch some off.

Where it stops

  • Sending needs a paid plan. MailerLite says the MCP server is available on every plan. But its pricing FAQ says that on Free, "API and MCP access is limited and doesn't include sending."
  • You switch automations on yourself. The assistant can build and test an automation draft, but we couldn't find a tool that activates it. You do that with the Activate button in MailerLite.
  • Templates are read-only. The assistant can install templates but not edit a saved template.
  • It's still labelled beta, and tool lists vary by source: Claude's directory shows 45 tools, while MailerLite's developer docs list more. Expect things to keep changing.

Switching from MailerLite?

  • Send from the chat on the free plan. MailerLite's pricing FAQ says MCP sending needs a paid plan. Audienceful's works on every plan, within each plan's sending limit.
  • Approval enforced by the server. Every send needs a fresh preview of recipients and timing, and your approval works once, for exactly those people.
  • Read-only when you want it. Leave editing and sending unticked when you connect, and the assistant can only look.
  • Revenue in every report. Native Shopify and Stripe integrations attribute orders to the emails that drove them, so "which campaign made the most money?" gets a real answer.

Start free: the free plan covers up to 1,000 contacts. Then bring your list over with our migration guide.

When to use which

Stay with MailerLite if you're on a paid plan and happy with it. Its MCP server is broad, the safety model is sensible, and the price is hard to beat for a small list.

Look at Audienceful if you want sending from chat on the free plan, a read-only connection for an analyst, or an assistant that can turn on what it builds once you've checked it. Audienceful's approval is enforced by the server: the assistant has to show you the recipients and timing, and your approval works once, for exactly those people. You also get an editor your team can work in together, and an AI agent inside the app for days you're not in Claude.
