How to Do Email Marketing With Claude (Step by Step)
Short answer: to do email marketing with Claude, connect it to your email platform through an email marketing MCP server, then ask for what you want in plain language. With Audienceful connected, Claude can build the audience, write the newsletter in your editor, send you a test, schedule the send after you approve the exact recipients, and tell you how it did. The setup takes about a minute.
Most guides to Claude for email marketing stop at prompts: ask for subject lines, paste the draft into your email tool, do the rest by hand. That's useful, but it leaves the slow parts to you. This guide covers the whole job, from an empty chat to a scheduled newsletter, and then the automations and reports that come after.
What you need
- Claude on the web, desktop or mobile. Custom connectors work on every Claude plan, including Free, which allows one.
- An Audienceful account. The free plan covers up to 1,000 contacts and includes the connector.
- About 15 minutes for your first send. It gets faster from there.
Step 1: Connect Claude to Audienceful
- In Claude, open Customize → Connectors, click Add and choose Add custom connector. (On older versions it's Settings → Connectors.)
- Name it
Audiencefuland paste this URL:
https://api.audienceful.com/v2/mcp
- Click Connect, sign in to Audienceful, pick a workspace and choose what Claude can do: view, edit and send. Leave send unticked if you'd rather schedule every email yourself.
Connectors you add on claude.ai also show up in Claude Desktop and the mobile apps. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector under Organization settings → Connectors first. More detail is on the Claude integration page.
Step 2: Give Claude the lay of the land
Start every new project with a quick overview, so Claude works from your real data instead of guessing:
"Give me an overview of my Audienceful workspace: how many subscribers, which audiences and tags I have, and my last five sends with their open and click rates."
Claude reads your workspace and replies with a summary. If you write in a Claude Project, add a short note on your brand voice and who your readers are to the project instructions. Claude will use it every time you ask for an email.
Step 3: Build the audience
Describe who should get the email:
"Create an audience called Engaged readers: everyone who opened or clicked an email in the last 60 days. Tell me how many people that is before you save it."
Claude previews the rule first, so you see the count and a few sample contacts, then saves it. Audiences update on their own as people qualify, so you can reuse this one every week. Our recipe for segmenting inactive subscribers covers the opposite case.
Step 4: Write the newsletter
Give Claude the raw material: notes, a link to a blog post, last month's numbers.
"Draft this month's newsletter from these notes. Lead with the launch, then two short updates, then one link to the changelog. Subject line under 45 characters, and a preview line that doesn't repeat it. Keep it under 300 words."
Claude creates the draft in Audienceful, on your theme, with a subject line and preview text. It isn't a block of text in the chat; it's a real email you can open in the editor, where your team can comment and edit alongside it. Want changes? Ask in the chat ("make the intro two sentences, swap the button text to Read the changelog") and Claude edits just those blocks, leaving the rest alone. Or edit it yourself in the editor; both work on the same draft.
Already have a blog post? The blog-to-newsletter recipe turns a URL into an issue.
Step 5: Send yourself a test
"Send a test to me@yourcompany.com."
A test goes to up to five addresses you name, never to your list, and arrives within a minute. Check it on your phone, then ask for any last fixes.
Step 6: Schedule the send
"Schedule it for Tuesday at 9am Eastern to Engaged readers, excluding anyone tagged VIP. Show me the preview first."
Claude can't just send. It has to ask Audienceful for a preview first, which comes back with the exact recipient count, a few sample recipients, the from-address and the time. Claude shows you that preview and waits. When you say yes, the approval works once, for exactly those recipients, and it expires after 15 minutes. If the audience changes or you ask for a different time, Claude has to preview again.
Changed your mind after scheduling? Ask Claude to cancel it before it goes out.
Step 7: See how it did
A day or two later:
"How did Tuesday's newsletter do compared with my average? Which links got the most clicks?"
Claude pulls the opens, clicks, top links and unsubscribes from Audienceful and compares them with your recent sends. With Shopify or Stripe connected, you can ask about revenue too: "How much revenue did email drive last month, and which send drove the most?"
Going further: automations
Once your first send is out, the bigger time saver is automation. Describe a sequence and Claude builds it:
"Create a welcome sequence for new subscribers: a welcome email right away, our three most-read posts two days later, and a short note asking what they'd like to read about after five days. Leave it paused."
Claude builds the trigger, the waits and the emails in Audienceful, and every new automation arrives paused. Read the emails in the editor, then switch it on. Claude can add branches too, for example a different second email for people who signed up from your pricing page. The welcome sequence recipe has a fuller version.

Prompts worth saving
- "Find contacts who hard bounced or haven't opened anything in six months. Show me the count, then suppress them."
- "Duplicate last month's newsletter and update the dates and headline for this month."
- "Update our email theme to navy and amber, with Georgia for headings."
- "Import this CSV of event attendees and tag them conference-2026."
- "Which of my last ten emails had the best click rate, and what do they have in common?"
What Claude can't do (by design)
- Send without a preview. Every send has to match a fresh preview, which Claude shows you before asking for your yes. For extra safety, set Audienceful's
schedule_sendtool to Needs approval in Claude's connector settings. - Turn on automations silently. New automations are always created paused.
- Re-subscribe people. Unsubscribed contacts stay unsubscribed, even if they're in an import.
- Make bulk changes blind. Tagging or suppressing contacts in bulk shows you the count first.
- See other workspaces. The connection covers the one workspace you picked.
You can disconnect Claude any time from Apps → Installed apps in Audienceful.
Claude or the built-in agent?
Audienceful also has an AI agent built into the app that does the same work without leaving Audienceful. Use Claude when you're already working there, with your notes, your docs or other connectors like Google Drive in the same chat. Use the built-in agent when you're in the editor already. They share the same tools and the same guardrails, and the connector doesn't use Audienceful AI credits.
Why do this in Audienceful
- The connector is on every plan, including Free. Many platforms limit their MCP access to paid plans or read-only access.
- Claude can finish the job. It builds audiences and automations and schedules sends, rather than stopping at a draft you finish elsewhere.
- The preview step is enforced by the server. A send has to match a preview exactly, so an assistant can't show you 10 recipients and send to 10,000, or send the same email twice.
- A full email platform behind it. A collaborative editor your team can work in alongside Claude, audiences that update themselves, automations, a public newsletter archive, and native Shopify and Stripe data.
- Simple pricing. Free up to 1,000 contacts, then paid plans from $29/month billed yearly ($37.50 monthly) for 3,000 contacts. See pricing.
