Black Friday Emails for Shopify: A BFCM Calendar With Templates

Kevin Scotton October 26, 2026

In 2026, Black Friday is Friday, November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30. Plan seven sends for Black Friday Cyber Monday (BFCM): a teaser, a VIP early access email, the Black Friday launch, a weekend reminder to people who haven't bought, Cyber Monday, a last chance, and a thank-you to your new customers. Before any of them, switch on your abandoned checkout, browse abandonment and post-purchase flows, because those catch the extra traffic the campaigns create.

This guide gives you the calendar, the audience for each send, and a template for each one. It's written for Shopify stores, and the steps use Audienceful, our email platform for Shopify, but the plan works in any tool.

Two weeks out: switch on your flows

Black Friday campaigns bring people to your store who don't buy straight away. Your automated flows are what catch them, so turn them on first and let them run for a week before the sale so you can check the copy.

  • Abandoned checkout recovery. Three emails over two days to shoppers who reached checkout and left, stopped the moment they buy. In BFCM week, change the second email's offer to match your sale rather than stacking a discount on a discount.
  • Browse abandonment. A nudge to known shoppers who looked at a product and left. It needs the Audienceful app embed switched on in your Shopify theme.
  • Post-purchase thank-you. Black Friday brings you more first-time buyers than any other week. A good thank-you sets up their second order.

All three are ready-made in the Shopify automation templates, with the Shopify trigger set and the copy written.

Build three audiences before you write anything

Who gets an email matters as much as what it says. Build these first:

  1. VIPs. Customers whose total spend is over a threshold you choose, say $200. They get early access.
  2. Engaged subscribers. People whose last activity, such as an open or a click, was in the last 90 days. They get most sends; everyone else gets the launch and Cyber Monday only.
  3. Bought during the sale. Anyone with a Shopify purchase since your sale started. Exclude them from every reminder, so a customer who bought on Friday doesn't get "last chance" on Monday.

In Audienceful these are Shopify audiences built from Total Spend, Shopify Purchase and Last activity rules, and they update as orders come in, so the exclusion is always current.

The BFCM email calendar for 2026

Date Send Who gets it Start from
Tue, Nov 17 Teaser: the date and what's on sale Engaged subscribers Sale
Wed, Nov 25 VIP early access VIPs VIP
Fri, Nov 27 Black Friday launch Everyone subscribed Holiday sale
Sun, Nov 29 Weekend reminder Engaged, minus buyers Evergreen Retail
Mon, Nov 30 Cyber Monday Everyone subscribed, minus buyers Flash
Tue, Dec 1 Last chance Clicked a sale email, minus buyers Flash
Thu, Dec 3 Thank-you and what's next Bought during the sale Season

Seven sends sounds like a lot, but no one gets all seven. A VIP who buys on Wednesday gets the early access email and the thank-you. A subscriber who hasn't opened in months gets the launch and Cyber Monday. That's how you send more without burning out the list.

All of these templates are collected on one page: Black Friday email templates.

What to put in each email

The teaser gives the date, the size of the offer and one reason to come back. If you run early access, it's also where people find out they can get in early: link to a signup form that adds them to the VIP audience.

VIP early access goes out a day or two before Black Friday. Lead with the fact that it's early and that it's for them. Create a code in Shopify for the early window, and use one code per send so it's easy to see which email it came from.

The Black Friday launch is the one email everyone gets. Put the offer in the subject line, the code above the fold, and your best-sellers below it. A product block set to best-selling over the last 30 days fills itself, so you don't have to pick products by hand.

The weekend reminder goes to engaged subscribers who haven't bought. Change the angle: a gift idea, a bundle, or what's selling fastest.

Cyber Monday works as a second launch for anyone who missed Friday. A different product focus, or an extra on top of the Black Friday offer, gives people a reason to open it.

Last chance goes only to people who clicked during the sale and didn't buy. It's short: the deadline, the code, one button.

The thank-you goes to everyone who bought. No selling. Tell them when their order ships and what's coming next. Your post-purchase flow handles the follow-up from there.

Protect your deliverability

BFCM is when inboxes are most crowded and mailbox providers are least forgiving. Gmail and Yahoo require bulk senders to authenticate their domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC, offer one-click unsubscribe, and keep spam complaints low.

  • Authenticate your sending domain now, not in BFCM week. Check it with our free SPF and DKIM checker.
  • Don't wake up a cold list on Black Friday. If you haven't emailed some subscribers in months, send them something in early November first, or leave them out.
  • Watch your unsubscribes and complaints after each send, and cut back on whoever isn't engaging.

After the weekend

Black Friday buyers are your best chance of a second order before the holidays. Run the Holiday countdown template ahead of your shipping cut-off, send a gift guide (the Gifts template is built for it) in early December, and let your post-purchase and review request flows do the rest.

Then check what worked. Audienceful credits each Shopify order to the campaign or flow that drove it, using the last click within 5 days, with refunds netted out. Compare revenue per send rather than open rates, and note which audience each send went to, so next year's plan starts from your own numbers.

Plan it in one prompt

If you use Claude or ChatGPT, you can hand the whole plan to your assistant. Our Black Friday campaign recipe has the prompt: it builds the audiences and drafts the emails from the holiday sale template, and schedules each send only after you've approved who gets it.

Shopify Black Friday email FAQs

When is Black Friday 2026? Friday, November 27, 2026. Cyber Monday is November 30, and Thanksgiving in the US is Thursday, November 26.

How many emails should I send for Black Friday? Most stores send five to seven campaign emails across the sale, but no subscriber should get all of them. Send most of them to engaged subscribers, and only the launch and Cyber Monday to the rest.

Should I send on Thanksgiving? Only if you have something to say. A short early-access email to VIPs works; a full sale email to everyone usually gets lost.

How do I stop emailing people who already bought? Build an audience of everyone with a Shopify purchase since the sale started and exclude it from every reminder. In Audienceful it updates as orders come in.

Can I use Shopify Email for Black Friday? Yes, for simple campaigns. Shopify Email (now Shopify Messaging) is free for 10,000 emails a month, then $1 per 1,000, so a big list sending seven times a week adds up. See Shopify Email vs Audienceful if you want flows with goals and revenue per send.

Audienceful is free up to 1,000 contacts, then paid plans start at $32/month billed yearly ($37.50 monthly) for 3,000 contacts. Install it on your Shopify store and apply the BFCM flows in minutes.
