Shopify Audience Triggers & Segmentation in Audienceful

Once Shopify is connected, you can segment your contacts by what they've actually done in your store (bought, added to cart, browsed, or spent) and use those audiences to trigger targeted automations. This is the foundation of behavior-based ecommerce email.

The Shopify conditions you can segment on

When you build an audience (or a conditional/goal inside an automation), these Shopify-powered conditions become available:

  • Shopify purchases: has (or has not) purchased. Optionally scope to specific products and a time window.
  • Shopify cart: has (or has not) added something to cart. Defaults to the last 30 days.
  • Shopify product views: has (or has not) viewed a product. Defaults to the last 30 days. (Requires the Audienceful storefront pixel, which is installed when you connect your store.)
  • Total spend: has (or has not) spent at least a given amount, optionally within a time window.

Each condition supports a time window (e.g. "in the last 30 days") and can be negated ("has not…"), which is what makes behavioral segments like win-back and browse-abandonment possible.

Build a segment: "purchased a product in the last 30 days"

  1. Go to People and create a new audience (or open the segment builder).
  2. Add a condition → Shopify purchases → purchases include.
  3. Pick the product(s), and set the time window to the last 30 days.
  4. Save. The audience fills with everyone who bought that product recently, and stays current as new orders arrive.

Build a segment: "viewed a product but didn't buy"

This one combines two conditions on a single audience:

  1. Add a Shopify product views condition → product views include (optionally a specific product).
  2. Add a Shopify purchases condition → purchases do not include (the same product, or any).

The result is shoppers who showed interest but haven't purchased: a ready-made browse abandonment or retargeting audience.

Turn a segment into an automation

Any audience can trigger an automation: choose Person enters audience as your trigger, and everyone who newly matches the segment starts the flow. That's exactly how the lapsed-customer win-back flow works: a "no purchase in 90 days" audience drives it.

Behavioral history is only complete once you've run a historical import. Without it, purchase- and spend-based segments only see orders placed after you connected.
