How to Build a Product Review Request Email Flow for Shopify
Reviews are some of the most persuasive content your store can have, and the best way to get more is simply to ask, at the right moment. A review request flow waits until an order has been delivered, then asks the customer for a quick review, with a gentle reminder if they don't respond.
Here's how to build one in Audienceful.
What you'll need
- A Shopify integration connected to your workspace.
- Two short emails.
- A link to wherever you collect reviews (your product page, a review app, etc.).
How the review request flow works
When a Shopify order is fulfilled, the customer enters your automation, but you don't ask straight away. You wait until they've had the product for a while:
- Wait about a week (so the product has arrived and been used).
- Ask for a review.
- Wait again, then send one gentle reminder.
Because it triggers on fulfillment rather than purchase, the ask lands after the product is actually in their hands, when they can genuinely review it.
Step 1: Connect Shopify
Connect your store from the Integrations tab. The Order fulfilled trigger then appears in the automation builder.
Step 2: Write your two emails
- Email 1: the review ask. Ask how they're enjoying the order and link to leave a review. Keep it short and specific. Example subject: "How's your order, {{first_name}}? ⭐"
- Email 2: the gentle reminder. A brief, friendly nudge for anyone who didn't respond. Example subject: "A quick favor 🙏"
Personalize with the {{first_name}} merge tag.
Step 3: Build the automation
In the Automations tab, click New Automation:
- Trigger: Shopify event → Order fulfilled.
- Wait 7 days (tune this to your typical delivery time).
- Send Email 1, the review ask.
- Wait 5 days.
- Send Email 2, the reminder.
- Optionally add a tag like
review-requested.
Pick your theme and click Run.
Best practices
- Match the wait to delivery. Ask a few days after the product typically arrives, not before. Tune the first wait to your shipping times.
- Make it one click. The easier the review link, the more reviews you'll get.
- Only send one reminder. A single nudge is enough; more than that annoys happy customers.

Frequently asked questions
Why trigger on fulfillment instead of purchase? Because a customer can only review a product they've received. Triggering on order fulfilled and then waiting a week lands the ask after delivery, which produces far more (and more honest) reviews.
Can I route unhappy customers to support instead? Yes. Add a conditional or a simple "how did we do?" step, and use tags to branch happy customers to a public review and unhappy ones to a support reply.
